Answers to the questions we hear most often about DNA and paternity testing.
This test is recommended when DNA results are needed for medical or healthcare-related purposes. If the child is under 18 years of age, we strongly recommend selecting this option.
Results may be used to:
Has the Alleged Father Recently Passed Away?
If the alleged father has recently passed away, DNA testing may still be possible using an FTA blood card sample or another suitable DNA specimen collected and preserved by the coroner, medical examiner, or funeral home. An additional fee applies when testing is performed using a deceased individual's FTA blood card or DNA sample. Results from this testing may be used for legal purposes, including Social Security survivor benefits and other inheritance or benefit claims.
If the alleged father is incarcerated, or if he has been deceased for an extended period and his remains are no longer accessible for testing, a Grandparentage DNA Test may be an effective alternative, provided that at least one of his biological parents is living and available for testing. In many cases, paternity can be legally established when grandparentage testing demonstrates a biological relationship consistent with paternity.
If you just want to know the truth and you do not need a paternity test that is court-admissible, then this is the best option for you.
What if I don't want the alleged father to know about the test, or he refuses to come in for the test?
If you have a toothbrush, eating utensils, toothpick, or finger/toe nails from the alleged father, we can use those items to test for DNA. Please call us at 978-860-0009 to get pricing and directions on how to preserve the items for shipping to the lab.
You can book your appointment online or by phone. Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive a welcome email with important details from our testing coordinator. Our mobile collector will travel to your preferred location for the appointment. All parties age 18 and older must present a valid government-issued photo ID at the time of service. Each party will be professionally swabbed onsite, and the samples will be shipped to our accredited laboratory for testing. Results are typically available within 24–72 hours and will be delivered securely by email or reviewed with you directly.
If the alleged father is under 18, permission from a parent or legal guardian is required. The parent or guardian must attend the appointment and provide consent for the minor to be tested at our office.
To protect the privacy and confidentiality of all parties involved, test results are not provided over the phone. Results will be delivered securely via email, or an authorized party may arrange to pick up a copy from our office.
If desired, an appointment can be scheduled for the administrator to review the results in person with all parties present.
